Washington, D.C. (June 21, 2019) – The International Council of Biotech Associations (ICBA) is pleased to announce the election of its new board chair and vice chair.
Steve Bates, Chief Executive Officer of the BioIndustry Association (BIA), was elected to serve as the new Chair, having served the previous term as Vice Chair. Siyabulela Ntutela, Chief Executive Officer of AfricaBio was elected as the Vice Chair.
“We welcome our new board leadership and look forward to continued collaboration, on both global industry priorities and issues key to their respective regions,” said Joseph Damond, ICBA Executive Director and Biotechnology Innovation Organization Executive Vice President of International Affairs. Steve Bates, Chair of the ICBA, said “I’m honoured to take on the role of ICBA chair as we continue to advance public understanding and support for the innovative biotechnology industry through multinational organisations, as our members develop breakthrough products and technologies that combat debilitating and rare diseases, respond to global health crises, improve agriculture and food security , and produce cleaner energy and more sustainable industrial products.”
The ICBA wishes to thank outgoing Board Chair, Andrew Casey, President and Chief Executive Officer of BIOTECanada.
Under his leadership, the ICBA grew to include 30 associations representing the global biotechnology industry. Furthermore, the organization expanded its policy work on regulatory matters of global importance, sending delegations of ICBA members to Geneva to educate and engage country missions and key international organizations such as the World Health Organization, World Trade Organization and the World Intellectual Property Organization.
