The International Council of Biotech Associations (ICBA) is pleased to announce the election of its new board chair and vice chair.
Oliver Schacht, Chairman of Bio Deutschland and CEO of OpGen Inc, was elected to serve as the new Chair, having served the previous term as Vice Chair. Claire Skentelbery, Director General of EuropaBio, was elected as the Vice Chair.
“We congratulate our new board leadership and look forward to continued collaboration to advance global industry priorities,” said John Murphy, ICBA Executive Director and Biotechnology Innovation Organization Chief Policy Officer. Oliver Schacht, Chair of the ICBA, said “It’s an honor to take on the role of ICBA Chair and to build upon the organization’s tremendous previous efforts to advance public understanding and support for the innovative biotechnology industry that is working to sustainably heal, feed and fuel the world.”
The ICBA wishes to thank outgoing Board Chair, Steve Bates, CEO of the UK BioIndustry Association.
Under his leadership and tireless dedication to the organization, the ICBA grew to include 30 associations representing the global biotechnology industry. Steve Bates led the organization through the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring that the voice of biotech companies developing and manufacturing vaccines and treatments was represented in global response efforts. Furthermore, the organization expanded its policy work, sending delegations of ICBA members to Geneva to educate and engage country missions and key international organizations such as the World Health Organization, World Trade Organization and the World Intellectual Property Organization.
